The end of a very wet day

May 14: Steel Brow, Frizington, & Parkside, West Cumbria

It was raining all day , so when a little bit of light came up I headed up to the brow to see if the Barn Owls were out, just as things were begining to show ( Kestrel, Jay, Buzzard, Cuckoo, Pipits and Stonechats ) the farmers appeared moving their cattle, nice to see but noisy and it scared off all the wildlife ! Nevermind, still a nice evening out.

A sunny weekend

May 12 : Steel Brow, Frizington, & Parkside, West Cumbria

A slow weekend wildlife wise as the first good weekend weather wise and so we spent it in the garden, a few trips out and I did manage a few shots, hopefully the good weather will now continue and I will be able to get out again exploring !

A grey cloudy early morning walk

May 08 : Steel Brow, Frizington, West Cumbria

An quick early morning walk in a cloudy gloomy haze. No sign of the Cuckoos, but there was a Kestrel Hunting and lots of Stonechats and Chiffchafs out and about. A lone Red Squirrel was in the trees and in the very far distance a mistle Thrush on the ground.

A bright early morning walk

May 07 : West Cumbria

An early morning wander looking for a Cuckoo which was a no show, happily though a couple opf Hares were running around a field and a lone Kestrel was out hunting. Not a bad way to start the day, enjoying some wildlife in the sunshine, it almost felt like Spring!

May 05 2024 : Watchtree Nature Reserve, Carlise, West Cumbria

A grey day with poor light

May 05 : Watchtree nature reserve near Carlisle, West Cumbria

A dark, grey day, but no rain so we had a quick trip around the Nature reserve near Carlisle. The reserve is on an old airfield, which now holds a windfarm and nature reserve. There wasn't much showing in the gloom but it was good to see lots of Skylarks about, a Red Kite flying high above, Pied Wagtails, Canada Geese and Mute Swans on the pond and lots of tits in the woods.

May 03 2024 : Parkside, Cleator Morr, West Cumbria Cumbria

An early walk on the cycle track bit grey with hints of sun !

May 03 : Wst Cumbria near Frizington

An early quick dog walk along the cycle track and theres plenty about, even though the pond was empty of wildlife. A cuckoo calling and I managed to get a quick shot from a long way off before it flew off. Skylarks were shouting in the fields, Stonechats hoping about and Siskins in the bushes and in the garden. Fingers crossed the weather stay and I can get out again later

A cold day with sun early on but clouding over later with a biting wind

May 02 : Wst Cumbria near Frizington

A cloudy end to a nice bright but windy day, I managed to get an hour in half decent light  on the moor. Roe Deer were grazing, a Cuckoo flew past, Stonechats and Lapwings were flitting about.

An odd sight was a pair of Shelduck in a freshly ploughed field, I can assume settling for the evening although there was no water anywhere near.
